Caretaker mode and recruitment
The election’s been called and while we wait to cast our votes, the current mode of government can have significant impacts on your job-hunting efforts and recruitment.
The government is now in caretaker mode which puts significant limitations on government departments and certain organisations, such as:
- Commencing major contracts
- Making or amending policy decisions
- Making significant appointments
Basically, at the moment a lot of workplaces are not able to make decisions or do anything that could create commitment for an incoming government.
So, you may find that things in the recruitment world will slow (but not disappear) and this can be frustrating. Best way to view it is the hot seat’s just being kept warm while the political arena resets and things are shuffled around. When the government is either re-settled or re-made (depending on the outcome), things can get back up and running again. Until then, try and be patient and do what you can to boost your employability – volunteer, brush up on some skills and don’t get discouraged.
