Job Title: Assistant Director – FOI & Privacy | Information Releases Lead

Lead a specialist team delivering timely, lawful and defensible information release decisions in a high-sensitivity clinical environment. You’ll oversee Releases of Information, FOI, subpoenas and other legal notices—balancing competing priorities while providing authoritative advice on privacy, governance and risk.

Location: ACT, NSW, VIC, TAS, QLD, NT, S
Contract Duration: 12 months (potential 12-month extension)
Security Clearance Requirement: Baseline clearance required
Closing Date: Thursday 5 February 2026 – 10:00am (Canberra time)

Essential Tasks:
  • Lead the end-to-end management of Releases of Information and legal notices (FOI, subpoenas, court orders, APP 12).
  • Make and document defensible statutory decisions under relevant privacy/FOI legislation and frameworks.
  • Provide high-quality written advice and risk-based guidance to senior stakeholders on sensitive matters.
  • Manage team workflows and priorities to deliver timely, compliant outcomes in a complex operational setting.
Key Criteria:
  • Demonstrated EL1-level (or equivalent) experience in a governance and/or statutory decision-making role.
  • Strong working knowledge and hands-on experience with FOI, Privacy Act requests, subpoenas and legal correspondence.
  • Excellent written communication skills (briefs, decisions, executive advice) with high attention to detail.
  • Proven experience leading teams and delivering outcomes across competing priorities (APS experience desirable).
